2021 Archery Season

Hey friends, it has been a while since I’ve posted a blog. Life has been extremely busy having started up a business called Ridge Patrol and some sudden life changes have come my way. Big game season is right around the corner as Antelope season starts August 15th and elk, bear and deer season opens September 3rd. As a new hunter it can be overwhelming learning the process of what to pack, and simply where to start. I believe it hold a lot of people back from tapping back into our natural instincts to survive. I know we all have personal preference and hunt differently but below is a basic gear list if you are base camping. Also- if your too busy, print this checklist and you won’t have to take the time to sit down and create one!

What did I forget??

Here are a few tips that I’ve learned along the way.

-In my hunting tote I throw in a few pieces of sage brush to bring a natural scent to my clothes

-Mid day back at camp, hang your clothes where the breeze hits them. If your gear is what they say it is, it shouldn’t stink if you keep it air dry!

-Bringing more then enough water (if you are base camping) You can never have too much.

-Extra snacks in the vehicle (this is for back country hunters) So that way after each round you know you have snacks and hydrations waiting for you.

- Always tell someone where you are going and a timeframe they should hear from you. (always factor in: example: “Hey Amy I’ll be back Monday evening, unless I shoot one then expect to hear from me late Tuesday.” If they have onx maps, send them a waypoint otherwise tell them the trail head/general area.

-Be aware of bears in the area you are camping and take care of your food accordingly. I’ve (knock on wood) never had issues in Colorado.

- I like to organize my gear in clear tots, I’ve got 4-5 tots if I am truck/tent camping. I have found being organized at camp will make a several day hunt go that much smoother.

With that being said, I wish you all the best of luck this season! I’ll be a bit unavailable for the next 4 months! I am looking forward to it! BE SAFE and get it done!!!!
